We Have a Heart For Jesus!

Pastor Mark SpencerJesus said, "As I have loved you, so you must love one another." (John 13.24b) Jesus calls us to love one another. That is our goal here at First Baptist! - to be a "church with a heart for Jesus."

We believe that showing Jesus' love includes: caring and connecting with others; building up believers to be stronger servants of Jesus; reaching out to our community and world with loving actions and Jesus' message. We also believe that we are called to show our "Heart for Jesus" through our worship, our Christlike lifestyle, and our growing faith.

As you join us for worship or activities we hope you will experience Jesus' love in tangible and active ways.

Our Beliefs

  • We believe the Bible to be the inspired and the authoritative word of God.
  • We believe in God the Son, Jesus Christ, who was born of the virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, and was crucified for the sins of mankind.
  • We believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ from Death; in His ascension to the right hand of The Father, and His future personal return in power and glory.

  • We believe the personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior, and Lord  is essential and sufficient for salvation.
  • We believe the Holy Spirit blesses every believer with spiritual gifts which are to be used for the edification and building-up of the Body of Christ (The Church).

  • We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost;  the saved to eternal life in God's heavenly presence, and the lost to eternal damnation and endless suffering.

  • We believe in the spiritual unity of all believers in Jesus Christ, as The Church, or the Body of Christ.

FIRST BAPTIST MISSION- JUNE FOCUS 2013 "ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING"...

The American Baptist churches USA are major participants in the mission of “One Great Hour of Sharing.” This particular mission “…is an offering that makes the love of Christ real for individuals and communities around the world who suffer the effects of disaster, conflict, or severe economic hardship, and for those who serve them through gifts of money and time.” (www.onegreathourofsharing.org).

Since a committee development in 1949 by several denominational church leaders, “One Great Hour of Sharing” has been part of a “…nationwide united effort by “America’s Christians….to prove to the world how great is the power generated when Christians unite in a common cause.” (www.onegreathourofsharing.org).

This month, WE have the opportunity to make a difference by participating in this “One Great Hour of Sharing.” According to the website noted above, there are currently projects in more than 100 countries. This includes the United States and Canada. It includes shelter, aid and basic needs for Our Partners in Chile. All offering funds collected support and “…make possible disaster relief, refugee assistance, development aid and .” (www.onegreathourofsharing.org).

If you are able to support financially please make your checks payable to the church and mark “One Great Hour of Sharing” on the memo line. Your prayers for “One Great Hour of Sharing” will also be heard as you remember Our Partners in Chile and the many projects around the world.

S.K.I.T. YOUTH PROJECT...

Thank you to everyone who has supported the youth group SKIT project. In about one month, our church has given $1,200 to Supporting Kids in Transition as well as three full boxes of needed items. Thank you for donations of clothing, toys and blankets. Thank you to all who ate at our soup and salad lunch and to the Koinonia Sunday School class who partnered with us on the lunch and did most of the work. It raised $500 for the project. Our goal is $1,800, enough to meet the need of future foster children visiting the Woodlawn ER during at least the coming 12 months. Donations may still be made in the box in the hallway and we plan to pursue some community grants and donations.
- In appreciation, Sunday Night Youth
